Pleating is one of Isabelle de Borchgrave’s most iconic techniques. It allowed her to make paper vibrate like a textile, with the repetition of light and shadow giving it depth. It also recalls the antique fabrics of Mariano Fortuny, which sparked Isabelle’s love for pleating. Combined with geometry and harmonious colours, the paper comes to life in an unexpected way. This work has inspired a magnificent jacquard with subtle nuances and deep shades.
